Prior to mandatory mediations, settlements were often difficult, and court schedules were backlogged with cases where parties litigated even the most insignificant issues. Thankfully, the climate in our domestic court has changed. Most clients no longer want to deal with the animosity or the expense that trials often generate. District Court bars statewide have searched for ways to resolve domestic disputes without the necessity of long and difficult trials. In that context, MEDIATION has become a useful tool in resolving many cases, and is now a mandatory step prior to trial.
At the DEC WARD FAMILY LAW & MEDIATION CENTER, we offer an atmosphere conducive to resolving difficult situations in a setting that is both client-friendly and attorney-friendly. We strive to make your mediation experience as pleasant and positive as possible. Our conference rooms are spacious and comfortable, and are at opposite ends of the building, allowing privacy and confidentiality for the parties and attorneys. Additionally, we have conference rooms for use by the attorneys as break-out rooms, with internet access and a laser printer. The center has ample parking and is easily accessible, both from downtown New Bern, and from other areas via Highway 70.
If it is not convenient for parties to travel to our Mediation Center, Dec will travel to other locations in Eastern North Carolina for mediations.
In addition to handling mediations where both parties are represented by attorneys, Dec will also mediate cases where one or both parties are representing themselves.
